The repertory for the Hans von Bülow piano competition should be selected with the following composers in mind:

- composers whose works were masterfully interpreted by Hans von Bülow: Johann Sebastian Bach, Ludwig van Beethoven, Johannes Brahms, Frédéric Chopin, Franz Liszt, Peter Tchaikovsky

- pieces by composers (including transcriptions and piano arrangements) who were connected to Meiningen: Hans von Bülow, Johannes Brahms, Richard Wagner, Richard Strauss, Max Reger, Günter Raphael

In the preliminary round (up to 20 minutes), compulsory elective pieces include one Chopin etude and one sonata movement by Beethoven, Mozart or Haydn. Additional repertory can be selected from the above list of solo piano literature. When multi-movement works are chosen, individual movements can be selected for performance.

In the semi-final round (up to 50 minutes), compulsory elective pieces include one complete Classical sonata, a substantial Romantic work and one Impressionist piece. Additional repertory can be chosen freely from the above list of solo piano literature. When multi-movement works are chosen, individual movements can be selected for performance.

In the preliminary and semi-final rounds, participants may choose the order of the pieces. In the final round and concerts, the jury will determine the program.

You may choose from the following piano concertos for the final round (up to 30 minutes) of the Professional competition:

- Ludwig van Beethoven, Piano Concerto No. 4 in G-major

- Ludwig van Beethoven, Piano Concerto No. 5 in E-flat major

- Johannes Brahms, Piano Concerto No. 1 in d minor
