Amateur competition


The Amateur Competition  invites skilled non-professional pianists over the age of 35 (born before June 27, 1980) to compete.

A total of two public rounds will be held in Meiningen between June 27 and July 1, 2015. The winner will perform in the final concert on July 4 with the Meiningen Court Orchestra conducted by General Music Director Philippe Bach.

Preliminary round: 20 minutes, one work from the Baroque or Classical period + one piece of choice

Final round: 30 minutes, repertory of choice + compulsory elective piano concerto with piano accompaniment (The competition host will provide a skilled accompanist for the final round. Competition participants may also provide their own accompanist for this round, however, they will not be reimbursed for any additional costs incurred.)

The jury prefers that the chosen works be performed from memory. However, participants of the Amateur competition are permitted to use sheet music when performing the competition repertory.

Registration fee

There will be a registration fee of  € 350 and a one-time processing fee of € 30. In case of cancellation by the participant before June 1, 2015, the registration fee will be refunded. The processing fee is non-refundable.
